As if one suicide wasn’t enough…

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

…One day after that news that Cabinet Minister Toshikatsu Matsuoka hung himself in his Diet residence…come details that the former executive director of a firm tied by a political fundraising scandal to Matsuoka ALSO took his life rather than face more queries from prosecutors.

Shinichi Yamazaki, 76, had allegedly established the bid-rigging mechanism led by officials of the Japan Green Resources Agency, which is known as J-Green. Prosecutors raided his home Saturday and interrogated him several times, including Monday.

Matsuoka had been facing a Monday confrontation in the Diet over his receipt of political donations from J-Green contractors…but cut that short by killing himself. His body was found on Tuesday outside his home, although he apparently did not leave a suicide note.

I do not gloat in reporting these details….These are terrible tragedies. But they once again demonstrate that there is a PROBLEM relating to responsibility, accountability and SUICIDE…a cancer growing on the Japanese body politic….
